Farmers market provides opportunity for food support

In Detroit, one of Humana’s newer Bold Goal communities, efforts are focusing on helping the senior population cope with food insecurity, loneliness, and social isolation. Specifically, Humana works with the city of Oak Park and Oakland County to support their food programs within their farmers market so that food insecure individuals have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Additional food insecurity efforts include working with the market to host family and senior market days, assuring qualifying individuals are receiving benefits; the Power of Produce interactive program that benefits both seniors and children; and the regional SMART Transportation system that provides transit service to the farmers market for qualified individuals.
